The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent examinations scheduled to be held on Saturday have been shifted to May 14 due to cyclonic storm Fani which is likely to hit Bangladesh tomorrow.

Prof Tapan Kumar Sarker, Secretary of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka, confirmed it to The Daily Star today. The HSC and its equivalent examinations began on April 1 and was supposed to continue until May 11. The practical tests were scheduled to be held from May 12 to 21. A total of 1138,747 candidates are taking the examinations under eight general education boards, 88,451 candidates under the Madrasa Education Board and 124,264 others under the Technical Education Board.

New Exam Schedule:

According to the revised routine, the examinations scheduled for April 17, 18, 22 will be held on May 9, 11 and 12 while the exams for May 4 and 6 will begin at 2:00pm instead of 10:00am. The government has brought the changes in the exam routine ahead of the holy Shab-e-Barat to be observed in the country on April 21, Tapan Kumar Sarker, director of Dhaka Education Board informed journalist on Monday afternoon, says media report.

The April 17 tests of Arabic, Sanskrit and Pali will now take place at 2pm on May 9.

The tests for second papers of the Arabic, Sanskrit and Pali have been shifted to 2pm on May 11.

Home science first paper test for May 4 will take place at 2pm, instead of 10am.

The May 6 test for science second paper will take place at 2pm.

This year’s HSC exams began on April 1 with 1,351,505 students from 9,081 educational institutions across the country sitting for the tests.

Holy Shab-e-Barat, the night of fortune and forgiveness for the Muslims, is observed on the 15th night of Shaban month on the lunar Islamic calendar.
