উত্তরা-মতিঝিল রুটের মেট্রোরেল চালু হলে তা রাজধানীর যানজট নিরসনে কী ভূমিকা রাখবে এ নিয়ে এখনই মানুষ ভাবতে শুরু করেছে। বস্তুত রাজধানীকেন্দ্রিক মেট্রোরেলের সব রুট চালু না হলে রাজধানীর যানজটে বড় ধরনের পরিবর্তন আসবে না, এমনটাই বলছেন বিশেষজ্ঞরা। উত্তরা-মতিঝিল রুটের মেট্রোরেল চালু হলে এর মাধ্যমে রাজধানীর পূর্ব ও পশ্চিম এলাকার মানুষ সেভাবে উপকৃত হবে না। মেট্রোরেল চালু হলে প্রতিটি স্টেশনের আশপাশের এলাকা হাজারও যাত্রীর পদচারণায় মুখরিত থাকবে। যাত্রীরা যাতে দ্রুত স্টেশনে প্রবেশ করতে পারে এবং বাহির হতে পারে তা নিশ্চিত করার পদক্ষেপ নিতে হবে। স্টেশনের আশপাশের এলাকায় যানজট সৃষ্টি হলে যাত্রীরা মেট্রোরেলের প্রতি আগ্রহ হারাতে পারে। যানজটের কারণে আমাদের জীবনের মূল্যবান শ্রমঘণ্টা নষ্ট হচ্ছে। তারপরেও যানজট নিরসনে ‘মেট্রোরেল’ বিশেষ ভূমিকা পালন করতে পারবে বলে আশা করি।
