The government circular scrapping quota for first and second class government jobs has been published, a day into the cabinet’s endorsement. The move will be effective immediately, says the circular of public administration ministry, published on its website, dated today.

Cabinet division endorsed the major change in recruitment to civil service yesterday, after months of mass protests from job seekers who said the quota provision was discriminatory.

However, the cabinet division’s decision also triggered protests from the beneficiaries of the freedom fighters’ quota, who now demand reinstating their 30 per cent reservation.
